In the new winter issue of the popular American travel magazine Ultratravel, Istria has been declared one of the top 8 world destinations that travelers should visit in 2022.
Heart-shaped Istria is the first choice for many guests who visit Croatia. A seductive mix of history, entertainment, gastronomic specialties, untouched nature and Mediterranean and continental climate make Istria unique. Multicultural and hospitable, Istria in a small area happily combines many differences. Istria stands out with its crystal clear sea, clean shores and harbors, fishing boats and cobbled streets speaks of the true charm of the Mediterranean. With its picturesque medieval towns scattered on the hills of the Istrian hinterland, it exudes peace and gentleness of a continent whose landscape irresistibly reminds of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany or Provence. It also stands out with its outstanding indigenous ingredients and gastronomic specialties, as well as excellently organized bicycle tours.
In the new winter issue of the popular American travel magazine Ultratravel, Istria has been declared one of the top 8 world destinations that travelers should visit in 2022. Along with Dubrovnik and Split, Istria has only managed to break into the travel scene in the last few years, and is already winning important titles. It should be noted that Ultratravel magazine is intended for wealthy global consumers, a select group of luxury travelers, and is characterized by high quality photos and content.
In Istria, you should definitely visit the cultural center of Istria, also the largest Istrian city - Pula. The most famous symbol of the city is the Pula Arena, one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters that takes your breath away every time. The magnificent Arena is one of the reasons to visit in winter, instead of huge queues for sightseeing around the Arena, you will be greeted by cafes that will always have free seats. So you can drink coffee in the sun right next to the magnificent Arena which is a really special experience, as if you have the whole Arena just for yourself.
In addition to major annual events such as the Umag Sea Star Festival and the Croatia Open Umag, the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in Croatia and the region, Umag will appeal to history buffs, especially its old town. The complete opposite of the old town is Umag's Trg 1. Svibnja, which we can call the square of novelty and creativity.
Novigrad has managed to preserve its peaceful Mediterranean atmosphere which makes it ideal for all those who want to relax. Being a quiet town does not mean that it lacks content, especially in summer. Interesting and unusual events are the Evening of Street Wizards, ie street artists who show their skills to passers-by on the Great Square, and the Astro party Lunasa which takes place on August 1, when the Celts once celebrated Lunasa - the first day of summer. That evening, the street lights are turned off, photographs of celestial bodies are projected on the city bell tower, and an astrological souvenir can be bought or the sky observed with a telescope.
