Đula Abyss (Ponor) is located in the center of Ogulin. It is 40 meters deep. It ends the picturesque gorge of the river Dobra, which disappears into the depths of the earth under a stone cliff. Above the cliff is the old Frankopan town of Ogulin (Frankopan Castle), built at the beginning of the 16th century.
The Đula Abyss receives flood waters from the Dobra river when the water level in the canyon rises. Excursionists and tourists can view this hydrogeological monument of nature from two viewpoints located near the Frankopan castle and the other opposite it in the Scout Park.
The stone cliffs of the Đula abyss are often a training ground for alpinists, and the underground world of Ogulin attracts speleologists.
It is also the largest entrance to the cave system Đula Abyss – Medvedica (or Đula – Medvedica), the longest cave system in Croatia, with a total horizontal channel length of 16,396 meters (over 16 kilometers!).
Ogulin is the only town in Croatia and among the few in the world that was literally built above cave halls and canals rich in water and calcite decorations.
