The island of Hvar, king among the Dalmatian islands, has been known since antiquity for its important strategic and nautical position, the richness of the stratification of historical periods, cultural and natural monuments and literature.

Thanks to the mild climate, warm winters and pleasant summers, it hosts many guests, scientists and occasional travelers who are attracted by the lush Mediterranean nature, rich tradition and nightlife. Today, Hvar is considered one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. The island of Hvar is the sunniest Croatian island with more than 2700 hours of sunshine a year. It is one of the sunniest in the Mediterranean, and is characterized by mild winters and long and warm summers. High insolation allows swimming in the sea from May to October.

The town of Hvar is located in a bay at the southwestern end of the island of Hvar and faces south.

In Hvar you will find clear sea with rocky and small pebble beaches, and in front of the entrance to Hvar bay there are Pakleni islands where the most beautiful beaches of Hvar are located.

Over time, Hvar has become a symbol of Croatian tourism and a place often visited by celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Gerard Depardieu, Bernie Ecclestone or Roman Abramovich. Its nightlife attracts even the youngest population during the summer months. The nightlife of the town of Hvar is one of the liveliest in Dalmatia. You can relax with various performances, exhibitions, concerts and music and folklore events and after that visit the numerous discos that are open until the early morning hours. Hvar is a town where the elderly will enjoy a peaceful holiday full of cultural events, and the young in cocktails, "after beach" and night parties.

Every year in July, after the Ultra Europe Festival in Split, the party moves to the town of Hvar to the spectacular, cascading pools of the Amfora Hotel and the Pakleni Islands. Ultra Beach Hvar is one of the most sought after music festivals on the Adriatic.

Hvar is often called the island of UNESCO. Some of the  most famous sights of the town of Hvar are:

The central square of Hvar or Pjaca, the largest square in Dalmatia. In the center of the Square is a communal well from 1520.

Hanibal Lucić's summer house is the most famous example of a suburban summer house in the town of Hvar.

Hvar Fortress (fortica or citadel) is located on a hill above the town of Hvar. From the fortress to the town square there are walls that were built in the Middle Ages. The fortress dominates the city. It offers a beautiful panoramic view of the town of Hvar and the Pakleni islands.

The town loggia with a clock in Hvar from the 15th century is the only remnant of the former governor's palace.

Did you know that the name of the town of Hvar comes from the word PHAROS - the Greek name for the island of Hvar and the town that was once located on the site of today's Old Town.
