The fire at the Vjesnik skyscraper, which severely damaged the building’s structure and interior, will certainly change the city’s skyline. It is clear that the structure will need to be removed — the professional consensus has already been reached — and now the decision of the Government and the City Assembly is awaited regarding when and how the building will be dismantled.
While we wait for the resolution of the situation surrounding the Vjesnik skyscraper, we have installed a live camera that will document the demolition of this building and, hopefully, the construction of a new one in its place.
The skyscraper stands 67 meters tall, has 16 floors, and is located at the intersection of Savska Road and Slavonska Avenue. It was built in 1972 according to the design of architect Antun Ulrich and, at the time, was considered one of the most modern high-rise buildings in Europe. The building served as the headquarters of the newspaper company Vjesnik d.d., housing office spaces, editorial newsrooms, a printing facility, and distribution operations.
