Omišalj is the only settlement that can be seen from all sides in the Bay of Rijeka. At an altitude of 85 meters, on the northwest side of the island of Krk dominates almost three kilometers long bay. It is also the first city you will encounter when you come to the island of Krk from the mainland, across the Krk Bridge.
The municipality of Omišalj includes the northern part of the island of Krk and the islet of Sveti Marko. As the main entrance corridor to the island itself, it has a very important traffic role, which is manifested in connecting the islands of Krk, but also the islands of Cres and Lošinj with the mainland via the Krk Bridge.
Along with the town of Krk, Omišalj is the oldest settlement on the island. It is an important Glagolitic and cultural center. Among the historical sights there is Dubec Park and the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century. which is located only 2km from Omišalj.
The winding cobbled streets of the old town and the compact rows of houses preserve a precious cultural and historical heritage. On the main square there is a large parish church of the Assumption with a bell tower, the Town Lodge and the Chapel of St. Helena. Along the edge of the cliff there is a walled promenade, perfect for romantic evenings as it offers peace, quiet and a beautiful view of the small marina and the coastal promenade. Preserved old custom, an important celebration takes place on the eve of the Catholic feast of the Assumption in August "Stomorina" - a dance of boys and girls who raise a "bandira" on the town square at the top of the crown.
In addition to the rich cultural and historical heritage, part of the offer includes hotels, annexes, a campsite, private accommodation and restaurants and taverns with a rich gastronomic offer.
