The Boris Hanžeković memorial is the oldest sports event in Croatia. It has been held since 1951 in honor of the tragically deceased athlete Boris Hanžeković. From 2020, the meeting is part of the Continental Tour Gold category.
Boris Hanžeković Memorial is also a great promoter of Croatian athletics, whose goal, in addition to popularizing sports, is to encourage our athletes to achieve even better results.
Zagreb will host top world athletes from more than 130 countries for three days. This three-day sports event provides a unique athletic spectacle that delights thousands of spectators every year, and is broadcast by TV stations in more than 150 countries around the world.
Over the decades, some of the biggest names in world athletics have competed at the Memorial, including the legendary Usain Bolt. It was at this very competition that Blanka Vlašić achieved the third-best high jump result of all time, while Sandra Elkasević claimed as many as 12 victories in front of the home crowd. Alongside elite athletes, the meeting also regularly brings together young talents who are just beginning their journey to the top of world athletics.
Today, the Memorial is held as a three-day sporting event, with part of the program taking place at attractive Zagreb locations, creating a unique blend of top-notch sport and urban atmosphere.
Opening of the Zagreb City Challenge competition at the Zagreb Fountains (Croatian Fraternal Union) on 24th and 25th of June. The first day's program begins at 6:30 PM with the women's high jump competition, featuring world record holder Jaroslava Mahučih.
