In May, it was almost unrealistic to expect Croatia to achieve results of almost 80% compared to last year in some areas in August, and Croatian tourism could end the year with a record 50% turnover compared to last year.
This year's tourist champion is the island of Vir.
According to the eVisitor system, most overnight stays of this year's tourist season were realized in Vir, as many as 1,800,000. It overtook Rovinj, Medulin, Poreč, Crikvenica, Umag. The island of Vir is the absolute champion of tourism in 2020 in the nominal number of overnight stays.
The island of Vir has had the most overnight stays in Zadar County in the last 10 years, and for the last 5 years it has been among the Top 3 Croatian destinations.
The vast majority of overnight stays were realized in non-commercial tourist accommodation, ie private accommodation, because there are no hotels or larger auto camping places on the island of Vir. The goal of the island of Vir is to become from a three-star destination, a four-star destination in the next 10 years.
The owners of more than 50% of the real estate on the island are foreigners, and this is a guarantee that they will return.
The largest number of overnight stays was realized by Germans, followed by the domestic market, Slovenians and Poles.
