How much do you know about baseball that is becoming more and more popular in Croatia?
Baseball arrived from America to Croatia via US Navy during and after The World War II. Accepting the new sport, Split becomes the first town in which to play baseball in Croatia. After The World War II it took a long time to establish the first club. It was in 1975. when the baseball club 'Nada' was founded in Split. After that, the baseball club 'Donat' in Zadar was founded in 1980, 'Zagreb' in Zagreb in 1981, 'Olimpija' in Karlovac in 1984, 'Čakovec' in Čakovec and Varaždin 1984 in Varaždin.
In 1986, the Croatian Baseball Federation (HBS) was founded in Zagreb, which is now a member of the CEB (Confederation europeenne de baseball) and IBA (International Baseball Association).
Croatia's baseball league was played for the first time in 1992. The BK 'Zagreb' is the most successful in the lower age categories (youth, cadets and juniors), and the most successful club in the senior category is BK 'Kelteks' from Karlovac with 8 wins and 9 wins in Croatia.
The capital city of baseball in Croatia this year is definitively Karlovac. Olimpija's 83th place has been at the top of the Croatian, but also the European baseball for years.
The 4 best teams in the EIB A-Pool will meet on the 1st and 2nd of September in Karlovac to decide who will take home the 1st place prize. The tournament will strat at 11:00 on September 1st with the regular season first place team, Nada SM Split taking on the #4 seed Budapest Reds. The second game of the semifinal round will take place at 16:00 and it will be a battle between Olimpija Karlovac and Apollo Bratislava.
The third place matchup will take place at 10:00 the following day against the two losing teams of the semifinal round, afterwards, The winners of the two semifinal matches will play at 15:00 to determine who will take the title as 2018 Euro Interleague Champions.
