This weekend, all roads lead to Savicenta, a small place in the heart of Istria that will once again bring together the best cheesemakers from Istria, cheese lovers, and other gastronomads. During the festival, visitors will be able to enjoy top quality cheese on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the Square in Savicenta.
At the Placa, while tasting top quality cheese, visitors can view old Istrian crafts and buy autochthonous souvenirs as part of Mrkat Istria. There you will find traditional handicrafts that leave no one indifferent, such as Istrian instruments, souvenirs made of olive wood, and local gastronomic products and delicacies from local OPGs.
The opening ceremony of the 13th Cheese Festival on Saturday at Placa will begin with the traditional Istrian dance.
On Saturday at 6 p.m. the Best Goat Istria is chosen. This traditional event is held for the 25th year in a row and attracts visitors who want to see something different and original. The selection of the best goat will be held in 4 categories: The most original goat, the nicest goat, Mister prč and Miss Istria with 1st and 2nd runners-up.
After Saturday's announcement of the Best Goat, the 7th Istrian Sheep Show awaits us on Sunday from 2 p.m., and the most attractive part of the show is certainly the competition in manual and machine shearing of sheep, which is on the program at 5 p.m.
The gastronomic offer during the Festival in the courtyard of the Morosini Grimani Castle will be provided by the Pekici Excursion Site, and the program also includes culinary presentations: on Saturday at 3 pm, making strudel with cheese, and on Sunday at 2 pm, making ravioli, which will also be part of the fair's gastronomic offer.
Also on Sunday, starting at 6 p.m., a guided "cheese and wine pairing" tasting will be held at the castle.
