Lions Uganda and Tayri take over Lion Rock Kidepo!
The Zagreb Zoo has a new "king of animals"! A new pair of African lions has arrived at the popular Lion Rock Kidepo location – a five-year-old male Uganda and a six-year-old female Tayri. This magnificent pair has already successfully adapted to their new environment and is ready to meet visitors. Uganda arrived in Zagreb from the French city of Sigean, while his partner Tayri moved from Veszprém, Hungary. Although they arrived in Zagreb in early July and spent their first days in separate areas, the zookeepers gradually and successfully brought them together, and the pair is now enjoying their shared outdoor enclosure in full glory.
Follow the royal couple live 0-24 hours a day!
For all those who cannot visit the Zoo right away, the life of the new lion couple at the Kidepo Lion Rock location can be followed via live stream 0-24 via our cameras. Whether it's a morning stretch, a day's rest in the sun or nighttime activities, Uganda and Tayri are constantly under the watchful eye of the webcams, which gives visitors a unique insight into their everyday life and adaptation process.

Last chance to save an endangered species
The arrival of Uganda and Tayri is of immense importance for the preservation of biodiversity. Namely, both belong to the northern population of African lions, which is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List. The number of these big cats in the wild is constantly declining due to habitat loss, poaching and conflict with humans, and the situation is further aggravated by armed conflicts in Africa. There are only 250 of them left in the wild, while the population in zoos around the world numbers around 200 individuals. That is why this Zagreb couple represents a crucial step in human efforts to save this subspecies from extinction.
Zagreb's lionesses Ayana and Nyota are entering a well-deserved retirement
The new rulers of the Lion's Rock have taken over the throne from the previous local icons. Long-time residents of the Zagreb ZOO, 21-year-old sisters Ayana and Nyota, have been placed in a special, quieter part of the enclosure due to their advanced age. There, hidden from the hustle and bustle, they will enjoy peace and their well-deserved, secure retirement.
The Zagreb City Zoo invites all citizens and visitors to visit the Kidepo Lion Rock and welcome the new royal couple, who are already attracting attention with their appearance.
