The Šilo-Crikvenica Swimming Marathon

The oldest and the most famous swimming marathon on the Adriatic coast, which is part of the "Crikvenica Summer Showtime", has been held since 1910. It is the 116th Šilo-Crikvenica Swimming Marathon in a row, and points are scored within the Cro Cup.

The Šilo-Crikvenica Swimming Marathon traditionally takes place on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, the patroness of Crikvenica. Participants swim along a fixed 3,500-metre-long course from Šilo to Crikvenica. The start is at 10:00 am from the sea in Šilo on the island of Krk, and the finish line is at the top of the western breakwater in front of the City Swimming Pool in Crikvenica. Women and men compete simultaneously, but the results are evaluated separately, in 18 categories. Almost 400 swimmers from 14 countries have registered. Competitors must pass the checkpoint at Punta Šilo within 30 minutes of the race start.

The official end of the competition is at 11:30 am, and the award ceremony will take place at noon at the City Swimming Pool in Crikvenica.

This year's marathon fits perfectly into the celebration of the City of Crikvenica Day and the feast of the Assumption, its patron saint. For this reason, an exceptionally rich entertainment program has been prepared that will last both days. After the collection of starting packages on Friday evening, at 9 pm on Stjepan Radić Square, visitors and competitors will be entertained by music stars Tony Cetinski, Funky Town and Ivana Kindl. Saturday's swimming excitement and tense arrival at the finish line will end with a big evening party. On Saturday, at 9:30 pm, the popular Damir Kedžo will perform on the main square of Crikvenica, which guarantees a top atmosphere and a memorable celebration.

Every year, top distance swimmers from Croatia and abroad participate in the marathon, which is also open to recreational athletes and swimming enthusiasts.
