The oldest and the most famous swimming marathon on the Adriatic coast, which is part of the "Crikvenica Summer Showtime", has been held since 1910. It is the 113th Šilo-Crikvenica Swimming Marathon in a row, and points are scored within the Cro Cup.
The Šilo-Crikvenica Swimming Marathon traditionally takes place on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, the patroness of Crikvenica. Participants swim along a fixed 3,500-metre-long course from Šilo to Crikvenica. The start is at 18:00 from the sea in Šilo on the island of Krk, and the finish line is at the top of the western breakwater in front of the City Swimming Pool in Crikvenica. Women and men compete simultaneously, but the results are evaluated separately, in 18 categories.
The official end of the competition is at 7:30 p.m., and the award ceremony will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Stjepan Radić Square, followed by a music and entertainment program with the band "Infinity band". During the duration of the competition, the rules of the Croatian Long Distance Swimming Association, which are enforced by the supreme judge and the jury, are applied.
Every year, top distance swimmers from Croatia and abroad participate in the marathon, which is also open to recreational athletes and swimming enthusiasts. Don’t miss being part of the spectacular event, either as a participant or to support the competitors! Enjoy a beautiful summer afternoon with the spectacle of the blue sea full of swimmers and boats, and join the numerous spectators who cheer on the participants in Crikvenica and Šilo.
The organizer of the 113th Šilo-Crikvenica Swimming Marathon is Crikvenica Tourist Board.
The waters off Crikvenica will be like the most beautiful picture postcard.
