Squid days in Šimuni

A unique event in the beautiful town of Šimuni on the island of Pag – Days
of squid! This exciting event will take place from September 26, 2024. until
29.9.2024. and promises incredible experiences for all ages and tastes. Those four days bring the Squid Hunting Competition, the Brodette Cooking
Competition and the Net Patching Competition.
Join the local fishermen and try your luck at squid hunting.

Accompanied by experienced hosts, head out to sea and experience a true
fishing atmosphere. Take home memories of the catch that you will be able
to prepare and taste.

Numerous additional events were organized.

Thursday 26.9.

● Registration and socializing from 6 pm to 9 pm
● The registration fee is €30 per person and is valid for all competitions.
● Competitors who use their boats and bring other competitors are exempt from paying the registration fee.

Friday 27.9.

● Brodet cooking competition from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m
○ Teams of 2 people compete. They have a kettle, spices and fresh ingredients at their disposal to prepare a homemade brudet, which will be evaluated by 3 judges selected from among the oldest locals. Award: Golden Chef.

● The land hunting competition starts at 5 pm and lasts until 8 pm

There are 3 zones available that you choose when registering:
1. Baba at the entrance to the bay
2. Luka Šimuni around the fish market
3. ACI marina, last moorings
○ Competitors are scored individually by the number of squid caught. Reward: Hand from the end.
● At 9 p.m., a joint dinner for all competitors, with the opportunity for everyone to try the brudettes prepared that day, with a musical program until midnight.

Saturday 28.9.

● Net mending competition from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m
○ He competes individually, and each competitor receives a net of 1 m² with a cut of 50 cm.
The speed and neatness of knitting are evaluated. Prize: Fastest thread.
● Hunting competition from the sea from 4 pm to 9 pm
○ Compete in teams per boat, with a maximum of 3 people per team. Competitors
assigned to the ships during registration. The start is in the port at 4 p.m., without restrictions
places of catch. The ship must be tied back in the port by 9 p.m.
○ The team with the largest catch by weight wins the Hands of the Sea award.
● From 9 p.m. to midnight, dinner follows - squid risotto, accompanied by a musical program.

Sunday 29.9.

● Ceremonial announcement of winners from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for prizes:

Golden cook 1st prize €100
Scoring per competitor: 1st place 30 points, 2nd place 20 points and 3rd place 10 points

Hand from the end for the 1st prize €100
Scoring: 1st place 60 points, 2nd place 35 points and 3rd place 20 points

Fastest thread for 1st place prize €50
Scoring: 1st place 30 points, 2nd place 20 points and 3rd place 10 points

Hands from the sea for 1st prize €150
Scoring per competitor: 1st place 60 points, 2nd place 35 points and 3rd place 20 points

Fish master prize €500
The main prize for the competitor who collects the most points in all disciplines
