Sensa, the Cheese Festival - named after the centuries-old custom of the same name held on Spasovo, brings a rich four-day program dedicated to sheep farming, which has shaped the landscape and life of Dubašnica on the island of Krk for centuries.

From May 28th to 31st, Dubašnica on the island of Krk becomes the epicenter of tastes and smells associated with cultural heritage.

Sensa, or 'cheese run', is one of the more archaic customs of Krk that has been passed down continuously and proudly to this day, expressing respect for its own pastoral heritage and creating an unbreakable connection between natural cycles, the local community and its history. It is the custom of the cheese race that is the inspiration and motivation for starting the Cheese Festival with the Krk sheep as the central symbol of the festival.

The festival begins on Wednesday with the presentation of the partner regions of the project "SReST" - Interreg Danube Region, within which the festival is organized, and whose main goal is the promotion of slow food tourism in the Danube region.

Thursday is traditionally dedicated to the celebration of the feast of the Savior and the customs of Sense, which begins with a solemn mass in the parish church of St. Apollinaris in Bogovići with the blessing of cheese and wine, and culminates with a race of young men for cheese in front of the church. It continues with the evening Cheese Festival on Ivan Klobučarić Square and the duo Mih & Me and the group Vruja, which combine traditional Istrian music and modern expression.

Friday and Saturday bring a series of workshops and demonstrations. From wool felting and making traditional dessert made from young sheep's cheese, to interpretive tours through the cultural heritage of Dubašnica and getting to know the Krk sheep in the park in DUBoak.

The Festival is being organized in this form for the first time, and the goal is to highlight the challenges that sheep farmers are currently facing and to contribute to the preservation of the Krk sheep, an extremely endangered indigenous breed, as well as its associated gastronomic and cultural values.
