There is a long and well-known tradition of masquerades throughout the Kvarner region.
‘Balinjerada’ soapbox race of original self-made vehicles called ‘karići’ that run on ball bearings (locally known as balinjere – hence the name) instead of wheels. This crazy race is a barrel of fun for both young and old. ‘Taxi Balinjera’ is the name of a programme which enables visitors and tourists to experience this crazy ride themselves.
Opatija was the center of carnival fun today. The spectacular 42nd Balinjerada delighted thousands of visitors and confirmed its status as one of the most exciting carnival events in the region.
Balinjerada once again showed why it is one of the trademarks of Opatija. This event combines tradition, humor and adrenaline, attracting an increasing number of visitors year after year.
