The beginnings of the Split Half Marathon date back to 2001 and its location was exclusively at Marjan, and in 2007 the race was moved to Riva, which makes it more attractive. From 2015, the route takes on new contours, connecting the east and west of Split and passing through all the important sports and cultural features of Split.
Split has been running the half marathon for 19 years, and the 20th edition will be the first to run a marathon also and introduce some new features, such as running on the sand of Bačvice beach where picigins and dancers are waiting for all runners. In addition to the usual sights along the half marathon route such as Riva, the military base in Lora, Poljud Stadium, Marjan and the West Coast, marathon routes will also run through Dujmovača to Vranjic and through Bačvice, Trstenik and Duilov where they turn before returning to the finish on Riva. The last kilometer of the marathon runs around Diocletian's Palace, which will be a special experience.
Impressive figures: over 500 volunteers, 10,000 nights, 900 marathoners, 4,000 participants are expected in four races, point to an absolute record and give Split a recognizable brand of the city as a city of sport and culture.
At 9 o'clock, marathons and half marathons start running from the Riva. The sunny and warm weather guarantees a great sporting event and the main stimulus is of course the fans. It is worth taking out to the streets, welcoming all the runners and at the same time paying tribute to the organizers who brought one such event to Split, to the pride of the city, county and state.
