The Split Marathon is an event originated from the Split Half Marathon. The beginnings of the Split Half Marathon date back to 2001 and its location was exclusively at Marjan, and in 2007 the race was moved to Riva, which makes it more attractive. From 2015, the route takes on new contours, connecting the east and west of Split and passing through all the important sports and cultural features of Split.
In 2020, a full marathon was held with a relay marathon in addition to the already traditional half marathon, the Slobodna Dalmacija Trophy (5 km race) and dm kids’ mile. This year, 21st edition of the Split Half-marathon on the AIMS certified track, which has been modified with less ascent will be held also as Split Marathon in Diocletian ‘s city of Split. AIMS certified trail that goes around the peninsula where the City of Split is located with a short trip to Solin and a tour of Vranjica (known as Little Venice). The start and finish are on Split’s Riva, next to the palace of Emperor Diocletian (which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List) and all tracks lead through the most beautiful parts of the city. At 7.30 am at the same time marathon and half marathons start running from the Riva. The sunny and warm weather guarantees a great sporting event and the main stimulus are the fans, of course respecting epidemiological measures.
The Split Marathon promotes health and encourages a healthy lifestyle and provides Split a recognizable brand of the city as a city of sport and culture.
