The Samobor carnival has great significance for Samobor and its tourism and is one of the trademarks of Samobor.

The Samobor Carnival, the longest carnival tradition of Croats, will present its 198th edition from 2nd to 13th o February. It is the lavish carnival by which Samobor’s people driving away the evil forces of the previous year, saying goodbye to the winter and looking forward to the upcoming spring.

The main role traditionally is played by the Sraka, Prince, Fiškal and Sudec, who officially open the Carnival Republic on February 2nd by handing the keys and proclaiming the Free Carnival Republic at the main Samobor square.

More than 3,000 masked participants in groups coming from all over Croatia will present themselves. You can expect a lot of fun for adults and kids and excellent program during two weekends and on Carnival Tuesday night when the Samobor’s Prince traditionally ends with the conviction of the Prince, which by ancient faith we deprive all the negative impacts in the next year. After the Prince is punished, the joyfull period that should marked the year begins.

The central place of all carnival events this year too is King Tomislav Square, under the watchful eye of LiveCamCroatia webcam which provide an excellent view of the events. This year, as many as 14 concerts await you at the 198th edition of Samoborski fašnik.
