Planet Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day, celebrating the birth of the modern environmental movement for the 54th time.

The official theme of this year's Earth Day celebration is Planet Against Plastic. In addition to other topics, the most attention this year is given to the idea of gradually eliminating plastic for the benefit of human health and the planet, with the goal of reducing the production of ALL plastics by 60% by 2040. The chosen topic emphasizes the need to spread awareness about the harmfulness of plastic, the health risk that plastic carries, the need to phase out all single-use plastics and stop the so-called "fast fashion", with constant changes in fashion trends that create more and more clothes made of artificial materials, which are no longer used. At the same time, five primary programs are implemented, namely: The Great Global Cleanup, Sustainable Fashion, Climate and Environmental Literacy, Canopy project on the importance of planting trees and Stop plastic.

Events held around the world on Earth Day are in support of environmental protection, which seeks to unite and raise awareness among people from all parts of the world about the importance of environmental topics and issues, such as pollution, conflicts, poverty and wars. Campaigns related to Earth Day emphasize the need to create green cities and reforestation, awareness of climate change, which worldwide causes natural disasters with a great impact on people, flora and fauna, the impact and consequences of sea level rise, the extinction of some plant and animal species, ocean acidification.

The coronavirus pandemic and the halting of our activities on Earth showed us how the Earth can regenerate quickly if we just slow down a little, adjust our actions.
