A view of the Zagreb funicular that connects the Lower and Upper Towns. A new boarding begins every ten minutes. The lower station is located on Tomićeva Street (which leads to Ilica), and the upper station is located on Strossmayer's Promenade, at the foot of the Lotrščak Tower.
With a track of only 66 meters, the Zagreb funicular is the shortest public transport cable car in the world. Since it has maintained the same appearance since the very beginning, it is protected as a cultural monument because it has retained its original structure and appearance. The Zagreb funicular could be called an active museum exhibit. European Best Destinations declared the Zagreb funicular one of the most beautiful in Europe. Although this was not its original purpose, over time it has become an unmissable tourist attraction in the Croatian capital.

Interesting fact: It was opened to traffic on October 8, 1890, in what was then Bregovita Street, and today's Josipa Eugena Tomića Street, also known as "Tomićeva", and the initiator of its construction is said to be D. W. Klein, an entrepreneur from Osijek. Namely, Klein got the idea for building a funicular by counting passers-by who were climbing and descending the 165 stairs that connected Zagreb's Upper and Lower Towns. And so he concluded that building a funicular, like the one that Budapest already had at the time, would be a worthwhile investment.
The funicular is still one of the main tourist attractions and a symbol of the city of Zagreb.
