Today is the 81st anniversary of the death of the world's greatest scientist, a native of Lika, the genius Nikola Tesla. Inventor, electrical technician, physicist, discovered alternating current and illuminated the whole world.
He was born in 1856 in Smiljan. He was an Orthodox priest, and his mother also came from a priestly family.
By going to the USA he was able to realize some of his ideas and change the planet forever. His laboratory was destroyed in a fire. At Niagara Falls, based on his patents, a hydroelectric plant was put into operation. He was the first to enable remote control. Thanks to Tesla, on August 28, 1895, electricity from the Krka waterfalls illuminated Šibenik.
Tesla died at the age of 86 in New York, in room number 3327 of the New Yorker Hotel. This great scientist stayed only in rooms whose number was divisible by three. On the occasion of the death that shook the world, the mayor of New York, Fiorello La Guardia, gave a eulogy on the radio.
His ashes are kept in a spherical urn, Tesla's favorite geometric body, in the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade.
